Summary: In my opinion, the Maserati GranTurismo embodies all the exoticism, sportiness, luxury, and desirability that the trident brand has garnered over decades. The GranTurismo is a 2+2-seater large luxury coupe introduced in 2007 to succeed the previous Coupe model. Its design by Pininfarina is classically beautiful and clear, yet aggressively threatening and abundant. “Sinfully sensual” is the right way to describe the car's overall appearance. Externally, the GranTurismo appears larger than its predecessor, and it is. The sleek lines conceal a nearly five-meter-long coupe. In terms of dimensions, the GranTurismo fits into a narrow but desirable segment. Competitors are few, perhaps the closest being the Bentley GT and the Ferrari FF.

Inside, the driver encounters an unusual spaciousness, brightness, and a rare functional, modern, and luxurious Italian design in a two-door coupe. Daily driving of the Maserati GranTurismo offers pleasure from the feeling its captivating design provides; it is pleasing to both look at and touch due to its high-quality materials, perfect craftsmanship, and refined details. Naturally, there is a range of materials and color combinations to choose from, allowing each owner to create a personal environment that reflects their aesthetic taste.

In cars of this type, rear-seat passengers usually make sacrifices in travel comfort. Instead, the GranTurismo combines streamlined sportiness with ample and top-quality passenger space, competing equally with its main rivals. Adults can comfortably travel in the back seats, even on long trips. The GranTurismo's cabin matches the quality of Bentley and Rolls Royce interiors. Its design language is slightly more feminine and modern.

True to its name, the GranTurismo is not a pure sports car, even though its power figures surpass many “true” sports cars; it is a grand tourer that combines comfort and luxury, suitable even as a practical four-person daily car. The trunk is sufficient for weekend luggage and a golf bag.

However, starting the GranTurismo's engine with eyes closed, the only association that arises from its strong and multifaceted growl is a bare, overwhelmingly powerful racing car. That good feeling persists upon opening your eyes and realizing you're in the tight embrace of a fashionable Italian beauty.

GranTurismo's heart beats under a long, curvaceous hood. The engine is an evolved version of the 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, familiar from the Coupe. Its over 400 horsepower accelerate the nearly 2000-kilogram car to 100 km/h in about five seconds, with a top speed approaching 290 km/h. While the numbers promise much, the sound of the car promises even more. Together with the Quattroporte, the GranTurismo is the only car I've ever driven that sounds like a Formula 1 car at 40 km/h. Its V8 engine's tune and exhaust notes have been tuned to play a melody that charms and captivates at city speeds.

The GranTurismo is, in a way, the perfect car—from all angles. The seductive design language invites and entices. Inside, its luxury and individuality lure even the most hardened driver to press the start button, and its driving characteristics and sound seize your soul and claim it as their own.

And it doesn’t even cost more than a quarter of the new price as a used car now. The tested GranTurismo, with a little over 100,000 km, can be obtained for under €60,000. A new one costs around €240,000, and the 2018 model is nearly identical to the 2007 model—just slightly more power in the engine, and that's all. In my own experience (having owned three GranTurismos), the GranTurismo is also a durable and reliable car when used, and its prices are not likely to drop significantly from current levels for at least a few years. Don’t go for a test drive if you’re not genuinely planning to buy a car. It's hard to resist once you've given it your little finger.
