**Summary:** I've been eagerly looking for a GT car for myself. There are many options, and I have already tried several, but none have left the same impression as the latest one - the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S is, in a word, thrilling! Gone are the days when a sports car was merely a sports car and nothing more. Today’s sports cars are not just faster but also more versatile. A critical reader might think such a car is a sum of numerous compromises, but the AMG GT S is not a compromise by any means. It is a pure-blooded sports car if the driver so desires - a few button presses and a peaceful evening drive feels and sounds like the Le Mans 24-hour race.
The soundscape of the AMG GT S is exceptionally comprehensive. It resonates through every cell of the body without fatiguing the ears. It commands the driver like a god commands a believer, albeit with only one command instead of ten: "I am the Lord, your God!"
The AMG GT S is an impressive car. Its body is like a race car, made predominantly of aluminum, weighing just 231 kg. It is light, stable, and very robust, allowing for the best possible lateral and longitudinal dynamics as well as steering precision. The ultra-light front module is made of magnesium, reducing inertia on the front axle and optimizing the driving characteristics of a sports car. The weight distribution between the front and rear axle is an optimal 47% - 53%. Combined with the car’s low center of gravity, this allows for very agile handling and high cornering speeds. The AMG Ride Control sports suspension with adaptive damping is standard in the AMG GT S, enabling race track-level performance.
In normal driving, the AMG GT S is easy and comfortable to drive; only the car's width might surprise you. The massive center console, with buttons controlling all the car's features, divides the wide cockpit in two. Strongly contoured seats support a good driving position and hold tight on winding roads. The wide and low car stays stable and secure on the road. If, however, the driver's self-preservation instinct runs out and the Race setting is engaged, it’s advisable to put on a helmet, for the racing-like atmosphere and pace become quite serious.
This praise could continue endlessly, but I'll just say that the AMG GT S is, so far, the best GT car I've experienced in its price range. And I don’t mean the new €250,000 price tag, but the category for the tested model driven only 21,000 km. Those 21,000 km cut an incredible €110,000 from the price!
At a €150,000 price point, it is hard to find an equally impressive, modern, and high-quality GT car where logic and emotion meet harmoniously, even though there is nothing harmonious about the car itself.
