Press Release 19.6.2018
A change in strategy led to the growth of the Sports Car Center Group.
The Finnish Sports Car Center (SCC) Group's revenue increased by 38% from the previous year to about 130 million euros during the financial year from April 2017 to March 2018. The growth rate of revenue has been strong for the past four years. In the financial year ending March 2014, revenue was still 27 million euros, after which it has nearly quintupled. The company's profitability remained at a good level despite the investment program, and the operating profit was about 2% of the revenue. SCC's workforce has also quintupled to around one hundred in the past couple of years. Sports Car Center predicts its revenue to grow by at least 20% to 155 million euros in the current financial year, ending in March 2019. In addition to growth, the goal is to increase profitability.
The revenue growth was driven by a shift in direction when the company changed its strategy in 2014. The company, which has been in the car business for over 30 years, initially specialized in luxury cars but decided in 2010 to expand into Premium brands. In 2014, the company began representing Jaguar and Land Rover. In addition to the aforementioned brands, the company represented Fiat, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo until April 2018 in maintenance services, which were transferred to a subsidiary. In used car sales, SCC became the largest operator in Finland in the Premium and Exclusive segments. The company also started a strong investment program, which led to the opening of a new flagship store, Sports Car Center Airport, at Kehä III road in early 2017, and expanded its Jaguar and Land Rover model selection.
"Growth drivers include new retail locations, active customer service and sales, aggressive pricing, excellent customer experience, and good store locations. During the last financial year, we expanded to cities like Lahti. We are exploring new locations in Finland and Sweden, where we see great market potential. The car trade is in a major transition phase with new mobility forms entering the market, and alternative fuels gaining popularity. Hybrids and electric cars are increasingly popular, and we are strongly involved in this transition by offering customers the car brands and models they desire. This year we introduced the Jaguar I-Pace electric car to the market, which has seen high demand. We offer all car brands and models under one roof, which is a big advantage for our customers. Our efficient service model in the Premium and Exclusive segments, where we customize solutions desired by the customer, has steadily increased in popularity," says Markus Freund, CEO of Sports Car Center.
