The luxury lifestyle magazine DeLuxe and its Weekend Menu experts – sommelier Juha Lihtonen and chef Kristian Vuojärvi – collaborated with SCC - Sports Car Center to create a unique tasting menu, where the wines, rather than the food, took center stage. Vuojärvi, together with Lihtonen, developed recipes to complement the selected wines. The event was held in early September for the clients of Sports Car Center at the exclusive Airport location.
"I chose the wines with a journey in mind, enabling us to travel from one country to another through the wines. In selecting the wines, I decided to pick characterful quality wines, each with not only a great story but also a personal connection to their origin. I selected a white wine from Alsace, France, whose expressive and aromatic white wines captivated me in the late 1990s. Renaissance Sylvaner is an exceptional Alsace white wine that incorporates methods used in the production of Amarone wines.
My passion for red wine originated in Spain in the early 1990s when I worked there as a chef. The 5 Finques Reserva is an elegant Spanish red wine from near the Pyrenees and close to the Mediterranean, characterized by a refined Bordeaux-like sophistication. The choice of this wine was also influenced by the wine producer's connection to sports cars. The family is also renowned for manufacturing Hispano Suiza sports cars. For dessert, I chose the classic sparkling Gancia Asti, which delights with its floral aroma and fresh sweetness. The wine producer Carlo Gancia has an incredible story of dreaming to make Italian champagne, which makes the wine taste even better." – Juha Lihtonen, sommelier
